TMP’s, as we call them, are the true Swiss Army Knives of the KHQ newsroom. TMP's do everything from edit video, operate studio cameras, prepare the studio for broadcast, shoot breaking news, write web and newscast stories, and countless other responsibilities.

You have to be technically savvy, adaptable, and producer-minded. The TMP position is frequently used as a springboard to more advanced positions in the newsroom. Non-linear editing experience is preferred.

This individual will be responsible for designing and implementing key projects for our digital portfolio and produce and distribute content elements across several media platforms.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS 

  • Knowledge and understanding of various media platforms

  • Basic understanding and demonstration of multi-media file formats and strong computer skills

  • Understand importance of social media

  • Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills

  • Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel

  • Operate computers with desktop editing system

  • Produce, organize, write, and edit content for multi-media platforms which may include, but are not limited to internet, mobile and social media

  • Collaborate with news producers and managers to conceptualize, produce and present content on multiple media platforms

  • Regularly confer with other team members to pick strongest editorial piece produced daily and optimize those articles for the web sites

They should also possess sufficient “people skills” — meaning they can mentor individuals and coach them. The News Director must have and maintain the highest code of ethical conduct, taking ownership for protecting the station and the license.  Five years proven news director and or news management experience required.  The candidate must have strong communication, writing and presentation skills.
